Joshua Tree, Once Quiet and Quirky, Is California’s Hottest Real-Estate Market

JOSHUA TREE, Calif. — With their stocks losing value, Anastasia and Kristian Frugaard decided earlier this year to invest in California’s hottest real-estate market: the desert.

In March, the Los Angeles couple bought both a house and a 5-acre lot just outside of Joshua Tree National Park, a desert area two hours east of Los Angeles and several thousand feet above sea level where unusual plant life thrives.
