Orange County attempted kidnapping: Arrest made

A man has been arrested and accused of attempting to kidnap a child in Orange County on Monday. Vinh Nguyen, 37, was arrested on charges of false imprisonment, luring a child and battery.Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office say surveillance video shows Nguyen approaching and grabbing a child, and attempting to lure that child to his SUV.The incident happened just before 8 am Monday as the child cut through the drive-thru lane of the Fritanga La Nueva restaurant at Semoran and Dahlia Drive in Azalea Park.It was recorded by a camera at the drive-thru window.The child was able to get away and reported the incident when they arrived at Azalea Park Elementary School.Deputies posted video of the suspect and of his car, a white Toyota RAV4, on social media and say it was a tip from a concerned citizen that led them to Nguyen.Parents in Azalea Park this morning expressed their fear. “That is really scary to know that,” said one mom. “It’s a little disheartening. I just make sure I walk my daughter every day,” another said.Child safety experts say the child involved was smart to report the incident. In a recorded call that went out to parents, the Azalea Park Elementary school principal gave some additional advice “Please talk to your children about stranger danger, remind them to be aware of their surroundings, and walk or bike to school in groups,” the school’s principal said on the recorded call that went out to parents.The executive director of the Children’s Safety Village of Central Florida said parents should also encourage their children, if they are approached by a threatening stranger, to get loud. “Raise their voice. Tell them no and run away. If this child did not know who this person was, just run away, ”said Brent Moore, the Executive Director of the Children’s Safety Village of Central Florida.
