One person is dead after a 3 car crash in Omaha

The Omaha Police Department says a 25 year old man has died after a three car crash.Officers say Romello Thomas was turning west out of a parking lot onto Military Avenue when he was hit by an SUV driving west on Military. That caused a collision with a pickup truck. “There was significant braking. That would be under investigation far as that, but ultimately you have to yield to the right of way to oncoming traffic when you pull out on to a roadway,” said OPD Sgt. Jason Menning.Police say Thomas was not wearing a seat belt. Officers said he died shortly after getting into surgery at the hospital. “This family, there’s a lot of young people, little babies that this family has, that now they have to move on with their lives without that parent,” said Menning. The crash happened around 1:00 pm Sunday. The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. His passenger was uninjured, per police. The two people in the pickup truck did not need medical attention, police said.The accident is under investigation, police are looking at speed and failure to yield as factors. “This is our 17th fatality here in the city of Omaha and we’re just now getting into the month of April, “Menning said. “Just drive, slow down, get to where you’re going safely.”
