COBB COUNTY, Ga. – Cobb County police said a man who is accused of shooting at an officer at Cumberland Mall over the weekend was shot and killed by police Wednesday night following an incident on the Chastain Road bridge that goes over Interstate 75.
Police said the incident happened around 5 pm when a Cobb County police officer attempted to catch the man. Investigators said the officer pulled the man over in his car when the man showed a gun and the officer shot him.
Cobb police said the man was wanted for shooting at a police officer on Sunday at Cumberland Mall.
Jennifer Barrera was driving up to the bridge with her family as they saw the whole thing unfold.
“I heard sirens and looked at my sideview mirror the truck and saw all the Cobb County SUVs behind me with their lights and sirens. And then I saw a small pickup truck in front of them and I saw an older man get out of the truck and start to run across the street, ”Barrera said. “I was kind of distracted by all the police that were running across the street with their guns in their hands. And so I did not see what happened to the guy. And then my kids said they heard gunshots later on. ”
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the shooting.
At last check, the bridge remained closed as police investigate the incident.
