Man dies after truck goes through ice on Moultonborough, NH pond

A man died after the truck he was in went through the ice on Berry Pond in Moultonborough Sunday morning.New Hampshire Fish and Game said just before 8:30 am, they were notified of a truck through the ice on the pond. Officials said two men were inside the vehicle. The driver was able to get out but the passenger was stuck inside the submerged cabin. The 70-year-old man from Moultonborough died at the scene. His identity has not been released.Fish and Game divers recovered the victim before noon.The men were part of the Lakes Region Racing Club, which races on Berry Pond on Sundays. They were experienced at traveling on the ice at Berry Pond, according to Fish and Game. Recent rapid weather changes created variable ice conditions. In this instance, over a foot of solid ice was bordered with a thin area that caused the truck to fall in.No formal investigation will be required as there were many eyewitnesses.
