Winter storm warnings, advisories issued across Pittsburgh region ahead of weekend snow – WPXI

PITTSBURGH – Wow, the difference a few hours will make from Friday afternoon to Friday night.

Temperatures will push toward 50 degrees ahead of our storm system that will blanket much of the area with white Friday night.

Winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings go into effect Friday night, as the strong winter storm Severe Weather Team 11 has been tracking all week will bring accumulating snow to parts of the area before midnight.

A brief period of rain showers will be possible after sunset, with snow developing in Lawrence, Beaver and Butler counties soon after. The snow will move into Pittsburgh by midnight.

Periods of moderate to heavy snow will be possible overnight Friday into Saturday morning, making travel hazardous.

Steady snow will taper to snow showers after sunrise Saturday, but road crews will struggle to catch up.

Winds will pick up through the day, bringing bitter wind chills much of the day. Dress for wintry weather if you head out. Wind chills will be in the teens to single digits.
