San Bruno Caltrain crash: At least 13 hurt in train, truck accident today

SAN BRUNO, Calif. (KGO) – Caltrain has been involved in a fiery crash on Thursday near San Felipe and Huntington Avenue in San Bruno.

Southbound train 506 departed San Francisco at 10:14 am and struck on-track equipment just after 10:38 am

There were one serious injury, five moderate injuries and seven minor injuries among Caltrain employees and passengers, according to San Bruno Fire Chief Ari Delay.

Crews were working on an electrification project when the crash happened, according to Dan Lieberman, Caltrain spokesperson.

Of the 13 injuries, 11 were passengers. Four of them were taken to the hospital.

A Caltrain crewmember and an equipment operator were also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It’s unclear how many people were on the train.

San Bruno firefighters have put out the fire.

Trains will be running hourly until the scene is fully cleared.

Caltrain, National Transportation Safety Board, San Bruno fire and transit police will be conducting this investigation.

SamTrans and BART are offering mutual aid for affected riders.

There is no estimate for when Caltrain service will be fully restored.
