2 taken to hospital after collision with four vehicles in Richmond Hill

TORONTO – Two people were seriously injured in a collision in Richmond Hill on Sunday afternoon.

York regional police said the accident happened on Stouffville Road between Yonge Street and Bayview Avenue around noon.

Four vehicles were involved in the collision, police said, and two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

It is not known what caused the crash and whether snow conditions were a factor.

The greater Toronto area is under travel advice on winter weather as a significant snowfall covered the region on Sunday.

Environment Canada said some areas have seen five to eight inches of snow in the morning.

The agency noted that two to five inches of snow are expected in the afternoon and evening.

Prior to the snow, motorists were urged to plan their journey and exercise caution due to “dangerous winter driving conditions.”

Earlier Sunday morning, a 27-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious, life-changing injuries following a Markham crash.

Ontario Provincial Police said it happened on Highway 404 near 19th Avenue just after 9:30 p.m.

A vehicle lost control and collided with a tow truck in response to a previous crash on the highway, OPP said.

“The roads were wet with poor visibility due to snowfall,” OPP said in a tweet.

The snow is expected to subside Sunday night.
