Ottawa Weather: Freezing rain warning issued

OTTAWA – Environment Canada has issued a frost warning for Ottawa.

The Danish Weather Agency says that a short period of freezing rain is expected early Thursday morning. Precipitation will then turn to rain when temperatures rise above freezing.

The warning covers Ottawa North-Kanata-Orléans, Gatineau, Maxville-Alexandria, Cornwall-Lancaster and Prescott and Russell.

Environment Canada warns that surfaces can become icy and slippery, and people should be careful when walking and driving.

The expected maximum for Thursday is 5 C, with a 60 percent chance of showers in the evening.

The temperature will be around 3 C overnight, then it will cool off on Friday. Rain showers change to snow and the temperature drops to -2 C in the afternoon.

Friday’s lowest night will be -7 C, with periods of snow.

Saturday and Sunday will both see a mix of sun and clouds with a temperature of -2 C. On Saturday there is also a 40 percent chance of rain.
